From the parking lot - 1.9 miles 40-50 min
The Mountain Top Shelter is on the top of Barrett Mountain facing distant views to the north and west including an incredible view of Mt. Monadnock. It is an Adirondack style shelter that sleeps 6 campers inside on the floor. There is an outhouse but no water nearby. This shelter is the most remote shelter and the longest hike from the Windblown parking lot. For most of the year, water is available from a stream by hiking east down Barrett Mountain (see map in shelter). Outdoor fire by permission only, extra charge for firewood is $25. There is a great view of Mount Monadnock looking west.
Shelter use is by reservation only, Wapack hikers are not allowed to enter the shelters or the Windblown trail network unless renting. No day use. Thank you for your cooperation.
